Marylou Faure

Hello, Marylou!
How would you describe yourself – who is Marylou Faure?
I’m a French freelance illustrator living in London 🙂 I love dogs, traveling and have a serious addiction to mini eggs.

When did your interest in illustration/design begin?
Ever since I was a little girl, I always loved drawings. My parents are both very artistic and I’ve always been drawn to illustration and photography.

What’s the most fun thing about designing/ illustrating?
I love the feeling of working on the final illustration, bringing everything to life. Specially when I’m happy with the sketch I worked on, it’s really exciting to work on the colours and getting close to the result I was visualising.

How would you describe your creative style? And when did you land on your current style?
Very happy, bubbly and fun with a vibrant colour palette. I’ve been working in this style for the last couple of years-my previous styles were much darker and creepy haha

We also love your typography. What first awakened your interest in typographic design?
I had calligraphy classes at my school and fell in love with it. It was always really tricky to get it right, but when you do, it’s awesome. I’ve also always felt uncomfortable with typography, so I just started to replace the fonts with my own writing, which made me work on how to structure words and letters a lot.

What do you love about hand lettering?
I love how much character you can give the words or phrases you are illustrating.

Can the creativity be learned later, or is it a feeling that is always within the human being?
I think anyone can become creative, it’s just like anything, you need to practice a lot and educate yourself a bit.

What motivates you?
I’m just really passionate about my work. I get moments where I’m not as motivated but it will only take a new project/illustration to put me back on track 🙂

What other illustrators/animators are you digging these days?
I love the work of Quentin Monge and Egle Zvirblyte and I also recently discover the work of two twin sisters-Agathe and Lorraine Sorlet, they are super cool 👍

Do you have any self-imposed rules that you live by?
Work hard and have fun 🙂

What are a few things inspiring you at the moment?
I’ve been working on a series of illustrations about different types of couples and relationships-it’s what I keep going back to at the moment.

If you were taking a road trip tomorrow what five tracks would you lead off with?
I want to break free (Queen), Wild Horses, You can’t always get what you want (Rolling stones), Good Vibrations (beach boys) and The Real Slim Shady (Eminem). Basically awesome songs I can sing along to 😎

If any readers find themselves in your town… Please give us your top tips!
I love walking along the canal, from Angel to Victoria park ✌️

Could you describe your idea of a perfect day?
I couldn’t describe it exactly but it would probably involve being in the sun somewhere, with my boyfriend and a mint and chocolate ice-cream.
